New range of Shari’ah-compliant UK pensions launched

In order to equivalate the growing demand from UK Muslims for a suitable retirement vehicle, Pointon York has launched a range of Shari’ah-compliant Self-Invested Personal Pensions (SIPPs).
Sultan Choudhury, Commercial Director, stated that people are attentive to the risks of not putting enough aside in pensions for their retirement.
The four Shari’ah-compliant SIPP products that Pointon York will offer are:
- e-SIPP. A low cost SIPP which can be easily managed online
- Single Investment SIPP. A straightforward SIPP for clients wishing to invest in a single asset
- Individual SIPP. A fully flexible SIPP allowing an extensive range of investments
- Corporate SIPP. Suitable for employers, it has three tiers providing flexibility. It is made up of the e-SIPP, the Single Investment SIPP and the Individual SIPP.

Al khaliji directors' board discusses IBQ merger move

Al khaliji Board of Directors discussed the latest developments with regard to the possible merger with IBQ and other matters. Other agendas like strategic and governance items were also reviewed.
Al Khalij Commercial Bank (al khaliji) QSC was incorporated on January 9, 2007 as a Qatari Shareholding Company under Commercial Registration No. 34548.
It operates from its head office and three branches in Qatar, one branch in France and four branches in the United Arab Emirates.

AAOIFI forum a big success

At this year's Accounting and Auditing Organisation for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) annual conference came 400 delegates from more than 20 countries from as far afield as South Africa, North Africa, Asia and Europe.
Despite the recent unrest in the kingdom, the conference wasn't affected, it was a big success. The conference closed at the Gulf Hotel and AAOIFI will now carry out training workshops in Bahrain until Friday.

Roadshow success for Islamic Development Bank

Islamic Development Bank (IDB) conducted a roadshow in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. This is part of a resource mobilization plan.
The roadshow began in the UAE and reached London where the bank has successfully priced, $750 million, 5-year, Trust Certificates (sukuk) issued at par with a 2.35 percent semi-annual profit rate under its $3.5 billion Trust Certificate Issuance Program.

HSBC Amanah fund chosen for UK national pension scheme

NEST Corporation has choosen HSBC Life Amanah Pension Fund for its Sharia Fund. NEST is a simple and low-cost UK pension scheme designed to give its members an easy way of building up their retirement pot. It also makes it easy for employers to meet their new workplace pension duties that will start to be introduced from 2012.
Stuart White, HSBC Global Asset Management (UK) Institutional Director, pointed out that this pension scheme could transform UK's pension industry.

Barwa Bank in QR529m deal with NPS

Barwa Bank and National Petroleum Services Group (NPS) made an agreement to refinance an existing syndication and support its expansion and working capital. All this will be worth QR529m.
NPS group provides drilling and well services to customers in the oil, gas and petrochemical industries in the Middle East, North Africa, Far East, and Europe.
Its state-of-the-art equipment and sectorial services are embracing Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Syria, Brunei, Malaysia, Singapore, Libya, and Iraq.

HSBC Middle East eyeing Islamic bond issue - IFR

It seems that HSBC Middle East is going to meet investors in Asia and Europe for a potential sukuk issue. The meetings will take place in Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong and London.

BLME launches first Sharia'a compliant UK light industrial building fund for Gulf investors

Bank of London and The Middle East (BLME) stated that that they will launch a Light Industrial Building Fund (LIBF). This fund is a Sharia'a compliant UK real estate fund which invests in sustainable property assets.
The five core areas that set the foundations for BLME's competitive offering are Private Banking, Asset Management, Corporate Advisory, Corporate Banking and Markets Division.

SIB heads to London

Mohammed Abdullah, CEO of Sharjah Islamic Bank (SIB), stated that the bank will issue a global dollar-denominated Sukuk that will be listed on the London Stock Exchange.
The size of the issue is yet to be decided as they are waiting for market response after the investor road show which is taking place in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

OIC–Turkey Special Forum acknowledges the growing international visibility of the OIC under the Poverty Alleviation Funds

Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), participated at the OIC–Turkey Special Forum on Building Productive Capacities for Poverty Eradication. The OIC took place on 11 May 2011 and was held in Istanbul, Turkey.
The participants accorded importance to immediate implementation of the OIC Executive Framework for Agriculture, Rural development and Food Security and acknowledged the on-going efforts within the OIC to encourage investment in the agricultural sector in land-rich OIC Member States.

Islamic Development Bank Plans Dollar-Denominated Sukuk Issue

The Islamic Development Bank wants to launch a dollar-denominated sukuk. The sukuk is expected to be launched after the completion of its fixed income investor meetings in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Sharjah Islamic Bank hires HSBC, StanChart for Sukuk sale

HSBC Holdings Plc (HSBA) and Standard Chartered Plc (STAN) were employed to take care of the sale of Islamic bonds for Sharjah Islamic Bank (NBS) PJSC.
The bank announced that the dollar-denominated sukuk will be sold subject to market conditions and after fixed-income investor meetings in the Middle East, Asia and Europe.

Dubai to increase Islamic finance products to France

Dubai Exports together with Invest France lead an Islamic Financial Services Trade Mission to France. Their obligation was to lead UAE companies in all areas of the Islamic financial sector from advisory firms and specialists in structuring of products to Shari’ah scholars and investment banks.
The main purpose is to ensure that Dubai Exports's firms are able to capitalise on global opportunities in the sector.

Dubai to increase Islamic finance products to Germany

In order for firms from the UAE to enter the largest economy in Europe, a mission was launched in partnership with the German Emirati Joint Council for Industry and Commerce (AHK).
Leading firms from the UAE's sector followed this mission with the purpose to connect the participants with potential opportunities in Germany and to show he high level of expertise in the area in Dubai.

OxfordJam and Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship

For three days in April social entrepreneurs including designers, businesspersons, humanitarians and investors were gathered in Oxford, England at the Skoll World Forum on Social Entrepreneurship and its more discursive 'un-conference' the Oxford Jam.
An important part of the session was focused on securing investment to start and scale social enterprises.
Also, Tom Hume introduced IDEOs 3 principles to create large-scale innovation:
1) Build on existing user behavior.

Gulf’s finance giants seek to purchase banks in Turkey

Adnan Ahmed Yousif, chairman of the Union of Arab Banks (UAB), states that banks from the Gulf are looking to acquire Turkish banks .
The statement given at the “Enhancing Shamgen Banking: Turkey, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan” conference in Istanbul reveiled that Arab banks like Al Rajah Bank, Qatar National Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank want to become established in Turkey by purchasing a national bank.
