Six Malaysian Islamic banks have agreed to jointly develop a waqf fund which focuses on projects in four areas — economic empowerment, education, health and investment.
The banks are namely: Affin Islamic Bank Bhd, Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd, Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd, Bank Kerjasama Rakyat Malaysia Bhd (Bank Rakyat), Maybank Islamic Bhd and RHB Islamic Bank Bhd . They have signed a Waqf Fund Strategic Collaboration Agreement.
Maybank Islamic Bhd anticipates its contribution from asset financing to the Maybank Group in the current financial year to be consistent with the previous year.
At this point 27 per cent of Maybank Group's total loan and advances come from Islamic banking.
Maybank Islamic Bhd issued its maiden Tier 2 Capital Islamic subordinated sukuk of RM1bil.
The subordinated sukuk, which is based on the Islamic principle of musyarakah, was rated AA+IS (outlook stable) by Malaysian Rating Corp Bhd and carried a tenure of 10 years from the issue date on a 10 non-callable five basis. It is lead arranged by Maybank Investment Bank Bhd.
