CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

Deadline: November 30, 2009

The annual conference of World Conference of Muslim Philanthropists, now recognized as the most prestigious forum on Muslim philanthropy worldwide, invites papers as well as proposals for sessions and workshops showcasing innovative, cutting-edge and experimental work.

THEME AND TOPICS

The conference will focus on how the integrated efforts of philanthropic, public and private sectors can effectively respond to the worsening global issues of hunger, poverty, disease, climate change and conflict. The forum will also host interactive roundtable discussions on Aid-effectiveness and Impediments to Building Capacity for Transformational Change. To further elucidate the theme “Building A Better World: New Horizons-Sound Strategies,” the conference will feature a special session on emerging markets philanthropy and global trends in giving.

WCMP does not wish to limit the creativity of submitters or the breadth of subjects proposed in response to this RFP. All reasonable proposals will be considered.

SELECTION CRITERIA

In order to make conference a quality learning experience, submissions that offer new content, contributes to the diversity of the conference, and pertinent to the theme will be given priority. Submissions which simply describe an organization’s mission and work will be given low priority. Product or service oriented presentations will not be considered.

SESSION FORMATS
Individual Presentations: Each presentation will be limited to 20 minutes.

Panel Sessions: A Panel will include a moderator and up to three presenters. Oral presentations may take up to 60 minutes of the session, with questions and discussion occupying up to 30 minutes.

Roundtables: Roundtable will include one moderator and one presenter if needed. Introduction to the topic will be 15 minutes whereas 75 minutes will be allotted to the discussion. The conclusion of roundtable discussion will be shared at the closing session.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

All proposals must be submitted electronically to program@thewcmp.org or info@thewcmp.org along with the following information:

- Session Title (20 words max)

- Session Abstract and Format (300 words max)

- Presenter/facilitator and co-presenter contact information

(Name, Title, Affiliation, Location, Phone, Email Address)

- Biographical sketch (100 words max)

The deadline for submission is November 30, 2009. Selected presenters will be notified by December 31, 2009.

Individuals are allowed to hold no more than one speaking and one moderator role during the sessions. Organizations can participate as presenters in no more than 2 sessions.

Accepted presenters who are unable to attend must notify WCMP staff immediately. Alternate presenters may be suggested, but must be approved by the Program Committee. The Committee reserves the right to modify or cancel any session based on a change in presenters.

PowerPoint™ or Keynote presentations must be submitted by February 21, 2010 for testing and uploading. In an effort to be a paperless conference, papers and handouts are discouraged unless absolutely necessary. Preparing any handouts is the responsibility of the presenters.

Conference registration for presenters and moderators will be complimentary; however they need to cover their travel and accommodation expenses. WCMP will facilitate room reservation for presenters at a rebated rate at the conference hotel and nearby hotels.

Presenters are expected to abide by the above policies.
